Synopsis (FR) : « King of Djembe » raconte l’histoire de Famoudou Konate, un grand maître de la musique et de la culture africaines, qui, après une longue carrière internationale, retourne dans son pays natal, en République de Guinée. Le film suit les alentours de la fête organisée pour son 80e anniversaire et les retrouvailles de Famoudou avec d’autres grands maîtres et amis. Famoudou est l’un des responsables de la diffusion de la culture du Djembé et du Mandeng dans le monde. Il a été un élément central dans l’histoire des Ballets Africains, un événement culturel, social et politique important pour le mouvement panafricain et l’indépendance des pays du continent.

Synopsis (EN): “King of Djembe” tells the story of Famoudou Konate, a great master of African music and culture, who, after a long international career, returns to his homeland, in the Republic of Guinea. The film follows the surroundings of the party marking his 80th birthday and Famoudou’s reunion with other great masters and friends. Famoudou is one of those responsible for spreading Djembe and Mandeng culture throughout the world, and was a central element in the history of the African Ballets, an important cultural, social and political event for the Pan African movement and the independence of the countries of the continent.
