In the heart of Montreal, an ancient ritual is being revived: the lila tagnawite, that mystical night when, to the beat of drums and the guembri, trance opens the door to the invisible. Music is then more than just an art; it becomes a powerful medicine for the soul. Born in the depths of Africa and carried forward by the Moroccan diaspora, the Gnawa tradition defies exile to offer a sense of belonging and purpose to a community in search of identity. It becomes a vibrant melting pot, a space of resilience where African spiritualities, Sufi influences and the pulse of the modern city come together.
