Synopsis (FR) : Le premier Africain à atteindre les Amériques est-il arrivé en tant que roi et non en tant qu’esclave ? Au XIIIe siècle, l’Afrique de l’Ouest est le théâtre de l’essor d’un vaste empire, l’empire du Manden. 180 ans avant Christophe Colomb, son empereur Abu Bakr est parti traverser l’Atlantique avec une armada de 2 000 navires. Il n’en est jamais revenu. S’appuyant sur la réalité et la fiction, ce film se propose de redonner à la civilisation du Manden la place qui lui revient dans l’histoire.

Synopsis (EN): Did the first African to reach the Americas arrive as a king and not a slave? West Africa in the 13th century saw the rise of a vast empire — the Manden Empire. 180 years before Christopher Columbus, its emperor Abu Bakr II set off to cross the Atlantic with an armada of 2,000 ships. He never returned. Drawing on both fact and fiction, this film sets out to restore the Manden civilisation to its rightful place in history.
