Une bombe environnementale a été découverte fin 2017 en Afrique centrale dans le bassin du fleuve Congo, au cœur de l’immense forêt primaire qui couvre les deux Congo. Elle se trouve dans la plus grande tourbière du monde qui séquestre plus de trente milliards de tonnes de carbone. Si l’équilibre de cet écosystème est rompu, une quantité phénoménale de gaz à effet de serre pourrait être relâchée dans l’atmosphère et faire exploser les compteurs du réchauffement climatique. Le documentaire part à la rencontre des scientifiques et des acteurs de terrain, ces pionniers de l’écologie africaine qui ont compris qu’il était urgent de protéger ce bassin forestier, le deuxième et le dernier poumon du monde, après l’Amazonie… Leurs témoignages sont aussi des cris d’alerte qui interpellent les populations, dans le bassin du Congo, en Afrique et le reste du monde.

In late 2017, an environmental time bomb in Central Africa has been discovered in the basin of the Congo River, at the center of the primary forest covering both Congo. It is located above the largest peatland ever registered, sequestrating more than thirty billion tons of carbon. If the balance of this ecosystem is disturbed, a phenomenal quantity of greenhouse gases could be released into the atmosphere. This would result in a disaster expressed by a significant increase of global warming. The documentary consults scientists, actors on the ground, pioneers of African ecology who understood the stakes and the emergency to protect the ecosystem of the forest, the second and last lung of the world after Amazonia. Their testimonies are an alert signal destined to the populations of the Congo basin, Africa and the rest of the world.
